A check-up at this age gives the orthodontist a wealth of information. If a problem exists, or if one is developing, they are able to advise you on whether treatment is recommended, when it should begin, what form treatment will take, and its estimated length.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some problems that can occur with a child\u2019s teeth are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Abnormal Eruptions \u2013 when a tooth starts emerging through the gum in the wrong place.<\/li><li>Crowding<\/li><li>Crossbite<\/li><li>Too Much Space<\/li><li>Underbites<\/li><li>Overbites<\/li><li>Overjet (protrusion)<\/li><li>Open bite<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"519\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.drtooth.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Ortho-problems-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-87\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.drtooth.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Ortho-problems-1.jpeg 519w, https:\/\/www.drtooth.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Ortho-problems-1-300x289.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 519px) 100vw, 519px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some children who require early orthodontic treatment may still need braces later in life. However, the amount of time in braces may be significantly less if early treatment has occurred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Early treatment may also prevent more serious problems from developing and may make treatment at a later age shorter and less complicated. Your child may also possibly avoiding invasive treatment measures, such as tooth extraction and surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If there are no current issues or problems identified at your initial appointment, then a follow-up visit is usually scheduled a year or two later.
