What’s right for you?
Invisalign vs. Braces
Our goal at Stephenson Orthodontics in Saskatoon is to find the orthodontic treatment that will work best for you and your smile. In this blog, we’ll take a look at the pros and cons of both traditional braces and the Invisalign aligner system in order to help you decide which is the better choice for you!
Invisalign Pros and Cons
Invisalign treatment uses clear, plastic aligners. The aligners are customized for each patient and are adjusted as treatment progresses.
Invisalign Pros:
Retainers are discreet and most people won’t even know you are wearing them
You can take the aligners out to eat, so they do not limit what you can and can’t eat
It’s easier to brush and floss your teeth
They are comfortable to wear.
Invisalign Cons:
Treatment may not produce the best results if the aligners aren’t worn as long as they are required.
Invisalign aligners need to be removed before eating and drinking anything other than water. You need to brush your teeth before replacing them, or you are also at increased risk of cavities and bad breath.
Invisalign is not always the best treatment method. It’s typically not recommended for more complex orthodontic cases.

Braces Pros and Cons:
Braces are made of metal and are attached to the outside of your teeth, Metal wires and rubber bands are attached to the brackets to manipulate your teeth to straighten them and align your jaw.
Braces Pros:
They are the most powerful treatment method in moving teeth into a desired position, and are suitable for all orthodontic treatment.
Braces can achieve a better result than Invisalign, using more force to move your teeth into the desired position.
Patients have the choice of lingual and ceramic braces to ensure the braces are less noticeable
Faster Treatment Time and can cost less than Invisalign
Braces Cons:
Braces are visible on the teeth
Brushing and Flossing your teeth is little more difficult with braces.
Some care needs to be taken with the food and drink you consume with braces.
